Cadillac recently made big news with the reveal of it’s newest edition, the Lyriq. The all-electric SUV is Cadillac’s first in the luxury electric vehicle (EV) market. Modern lighting accents dramatically greet the driver as they approach the vehicle. The handles of the doors are seamlessly integrated into the sleek body of the car. The 23-inch wheels are bold and unmistakably Cadillac. The curvature of the vehicle’s body flows and gives it a crisp and modern appeal.
The full-glass, two-tone roof integrates effortlessly with the rest of the vehicle. It gives the exterior an aerodynamic aura of performance. At the rear of the vehicle, Cadillac has kept true to its heritage with vertical tail lights reminiscent of its past.
19-speaker sound system
The interior of the vehicle is something to get excited about. The Cadillac Lyriq is equipped with a 19-speaker AKG studio. The speakers have been carefully placed for sound optimization, ensuring all passengers have an immersive audio experience. The dash is modern, minimalistic and crisp, featuring an elegant 33-inch curved touch display as well as a dual plane hub.
The near plane will display speed, direction and other information while the far plane will display transparent navigation signals. Perforated speaker patterns and aluminum accents on the door panels emit sound and light. Plus the modern design of the leather seats make the passenger experience in this vehicle a true delight.
Range anxiety
The Lyriq is GM’s first all-electric vehicle. The company has decided to also invest further in the development of EV charging infrastructure. The company has partnered with EVgo; America’s Largest Public EV Fast Charging Network and plans on tripling its network.
The Lyriq is powered by an ultium battery with a 100 kWh energy capacity that has been placed horizontally along the underbody of the car.
Rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrain options
On a full charge, the vehicle will have a range of approximately 482 km. The battery design has allowed for a 50/50 weight distribution of the vehicle, resulting in a lower centre of gravity. That results in a sportier and more responsive drive.
The Cadillac Lyriq can be recharged with Level 2 charging at a rate of 19 kW or even faster with DC fast charging at up to 150 kW. Cadillac has partnered with LG for the battery and is planning to construct a battery plant in Ohio.
Late 2022 production
The vehicle will also be available in rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrain options. It will be equipped with Cadillac’s latest version of Super Cruise, the industry’s first truly hands-free driver assistance feature.
The Cadillac Lyriq will enter production in late 2022 and will likely hit the market by 2023.
