ALL-ELECTRIC MUSTANG MACH-E: A NEW BREED OF STEED

When the Ford Mustang was introduced at the 1964 World’s Fair as a 1965 model, who could have predicted the massive success story that the muscle car brand would become? A new all-electric model called the Mustang Mach-E looks to carry on a rich tradition.

In addition to being an iconic piece of Americana, Mustangs have grown into a phenomenon around the world. And that, of course, includes Canada. One source notes that 6,745 of them were sold here last year. That’s compared to 2,236 Chevy Camaros and 2,041 Dodge Challengers.

But after several generations of ‘Stang fever, Ford Motor Company is promising Mustang enthusiasts a new breed of steed.

Mustang Mach-E: Different models

One of the models is the rear-wheel drive California Route 1. It offers a targeted range of 475 kilometres, acceleration of 0 to 60 miles per hour in the mid-six-second range, and a MSRP starting at $63,745.

The new breed muscle car is also available as an eAWD (electric all-wheel drive) version that comes equipped with the type of performance and handling that you would expect from a Mustang. The full power of both the front and rear axles can be used to provide spirited acceleration.

Crossover sensibilities

One thing you’ll realize right off the bat is that the Mustang Mach-E has the look of a crossover. The vehicle manufacturer says this all-new pony will be built with all the passion befitting its iconic heritage – all while being a battery electric vehicle with zero-emissions certification.

Mustang Mach-E: Space for people and your stuff

Another thing you’ll notice about the Mustang Mach-E is the interior space – there’s a lot of it. Headroom and legroom are plentiful. You’ll also notice the trunk is at the front. Remember that there’s no big motor under the hood with this all-electric pony. This storage space is water-resistant, washable, and comes equipped with a convenient drain. It’s perfect for a tailgate party – save for the fact that it’ll be at the front of your vehicle rather than at the rear of your vehicle.

What colour should it be?

If you’re a stickler for getting a specific colour for your muscle car, the Mustang Mach-E is in Rapid Red metallic tinted clearcoat, Star White metallic tri-coat, Infinite Blue metallic tinted clearcoat, Carbonized Gray, Shadow Black, Iconic Silver, and Space White. Tinted clearcoat and tri-coat colours are, however, available as extra-cost options.

Convenient charging options

The Mustang Mach-E also comes standard with the Ford Mobile Charger that works on both 120V and 240V outlets. You can also opt for a fast home charging solution. The Ford Connected Charge Station, for instance, can add up to 48 kms of range per charging hour, which will give you a complete charge overnight.

If you’re interested in the All-Electric Mustang Mach-E, you can order now at Ford’s website. But you’ll have to hold your horses, as far as taking possession of one goes, because deliveries don’t start until early next year.
