The summer edition of Pitti Uomo 2022 set Florence’s Fortezza da Basso on fire, with four full days dedicated to celebrating contemporary men’s fashion.

This year’s theme, PITTI _ ISLAND, encouraged a confluence of ideas, discussions, and collaborations between brands and buyers. A total of 671 men’s street style brands (40% of which are international) showcased their latest collections inspired by five menswear trends—Fantastic Classic, Futuro Maschile, Dynamic Attitude, Superstyling, and S|Style sustainable style—to buyers and retailers from leading department stores and boutiques.
The expanded itinerary included a guest designer, Grace Wales Bonner, who premiered her spring/summer 2023 collection with a catwalk show. There was a guest of honor, Ann Demeulemeester, who curated a special project highlighting her iconic style. The spotlight shone on Ukrainian designers like Bobkova and Gudu who presented their modern take on men’s fashion.

The streetwear at Pitti Uomo 102 seemed aligned with the five chosen 2022 street style menswear trends. Sophisticated tailoring, relaxed silhouettes, sporty styles, gender-neutral clothing, and eco-friendly accessories won everyone’s favour. Meanwhile, the colour palette danced in every shade of the spectrum, from muted neutrals to flamboyant neons, depicting an overall contented mood.
Summer hats dominated street style looks, including bucket hats, baseball caps, panama hats, and fedora hats among others. A surprising summer 2022 street style accessory carried by many was the reusable tote bag, giving the unassuming style a cool twist. In the shoe department, sneakers, loafers, open-toe sandals, and brogues were unanimously preferred, making comfort a top priority.
