IS TESLA’S NEW POST-APOCALYPTIC-THEMED “CYBERTRUCK” A PRACTICAL INVESTMENT OR JUST A RICH MAN’S TRINKET?

Depending on whom you ask, the Tesla Cybertruck is either an electric pickup with a futuristic sci-fi vibe or a hideous monstrosity masquerading as a truck.

The pickup is still pre-production – and won’t be available until late 2021. However that hasn’t stopped people from weighing in with their opinions on this game-changer of a vehicle.

People either love it or hate it. There’s no sitting on the fence on this one. Many consumers on both sides of the border have put their money where their mouths are by ponying up refundable deposits. They’ll be first in line to purchase and get behind the wheel of the post-apocalyptic themed electric pickup truck. And it looks unlike any truck seen before – for better or for worse.

The vehicle is designed to have the utility of a truck and the performance of a sports car. It’s intended to perform capably whether on-road and off-road. The Cybertruck will come in three variants: single motor rear-wheel drive, dual motor all-wheel drive, and tri motor all-wheel drive.

It will also offer a range of 500+ miles, accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 2.9 seconds. And while Canadian pricing has not been released yet, the base model will start at around USD 39,900 in the U.S.

So, with that said, is the Tesla Cybertruck something you should consider buying when it finally arrives? Mull over these 3 reasons why the Cybertruck might be worth the investment.

Stand out from the crowd

Are you thinking about getting a new truck but are tired of the cookie-cutter variety offered by the established manufacturers of diesel and gasoline engine trucks? Do you want a new toy that is unlike anything your friends have in their garages?

Are you a business professional who wants an electric vehicle that sets you apart from your competitors? Is it possible that you simply want a truck with the ride quality of a sports car?

If you answered in the affirmative to any of these questions, you might want to mull over making a CAD 150 deposit for Tesla’s Cybertruck. You definitely won’t have to worry about having a vehicle that looks like every other pickup on your street. The earliest you can get behind the wheel of the pickup is late next year, but you should consider that some versions of the pickup won’t be available until 2022.

This electric vehicle does have some truck cred

Don’t let the electric pickup’s sci-fi persona fool you. The Cybertruck does have some truck credibility. Its towing capacity exceeds 14,000 pounds and its payload capacity is 3,500 pounds, for instance. If you’re like most people, those specs are more than enough. So you’ll have a six-passenger electric pickup that isn’t merely some pretender to the proverbial throne.

Have your cake and eat it too since it won’t guzzle gas

Have you always wanted a truck but didn’t want to deal with the gas-guzzling stereotypes that come part and parcel with ownership? The Cybertruck will let you have your cake and eat it too. The only time you might need to stop at the gas station is to ask for directions. And the pickup’s ample driving range means you won’t have to be wracked with the dreaded range anxiety.

So is the Cybertruck the sort of vehicle you’ll want in your driveway? If you’d like an electric truck that’s unlike anything else out there, it might be worth making a refundable deposit at the very least.
