Long before he was demanding his martinis ‘shaken, not stirred’ in his role as James Bond, Pierce Brosnan was winning on the small screen. People might remember the 1980s, when he starred as the mysterious thief turned PI, in Remington Steele. But his star power really exploded when became the fifth Bond, starring in four films between 1995 and 2002.

An elevated art form
After the couple bought the property, they spent the next 10 years adding personal touches to finish the interior and exterior. In the end they created an idyllic compound that they named Orchid House.
There is no greenhouse on the property filled with the beautiful delicate flower. But the grounds are infused with the aromatic scent of tropical flowers among the many palm trees.
The Malibu property features a distinctive exterior design. There is no doubt that this five-bedroom, 14-bath home on over an acre of land was inspired by what Brosnan saw on his many travels. Countries where indoor/outdoor architecture is considered to be an elevated art form were clearly an inspiration.
A peak inside
Walk right in and you are immediately taken in by the spacious and thoughtfully laid out floor plan. It has clean lines and white colour palette accented with light wood flooring, cabinetry and mouldings.
A leisurely stroll through the open main floor brings you into an expansive living area. The space is defined by floor-to-ceiling windows. Suddenly the outside is inside as sunlight streams into the living area. The breathtaking ocean and beach views are illuminated.
The flow of the room brings you to the dining area. There you will find a cozy fireplace. And finally there is an enormous gourmet kitchen, also with a fireplace. That is where all the cooking and entertaining magic happens. It is made easy with a butler’s pantry and custom wine storage.
Downstairs on the lower level is an enviable home theatre. That is not unexpected in the home of two working actors. There you’ll also find a bar and tiered seating to accommodate friends and family for a screening or movie night.
The former Bond star likes to stay in shape. So it’s no surprise to find another wing of this magnificent home equipped with a large mirrored gym, sauna, steam room, Japanese soaking tub and cold plunge.
Meanwhile, upstairs in the master suite, his-and-her baths and dressing rooms make getting ready for the day another luxurious experience. Two more fireplaces keep the room cozy on cool nights. A walkout to a large deck is perfect for that morning coffee or evening cocktail. That is made even more special with a spectacular ocean view.
For a breath of fresh air
Malibu life wouldn’t be complete without an inspired yet private outdoor space in which to enjoy it. And Orchid House offers that up in spades. That Thai feeling really comes alive outdoors, starting with the large open deck built specifically for entertaining. And on top of that is a separate living and dining area with windbreaks for those blustery days.
A salt-water pool in front of the two-storey guesthouse beckons you, all against a bucolic backdrop of artistic landscaping that includes palm trees, perfumed tropical flowers and a path to the wide beach.
The Malibu vibe
Malibu has been a celebrity hub since the beginning of filmdom. It’s where stars go to decompress with their peers, feel the sun on their backs and the sand between their toes.
The new owner of this glamorous Pierce Brosnan beach retreat will be in good company, with neighbours like Lady Gaga, Julia Roberts, Steven Spielberg and Courteney Cox.
Pierce Brosnan played James Bond in four films from 1995 until 2002. GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day have all become Bond classics. Not one to lounge around, Brosnan has five new films scheduled to open in 2021 along with one voiceover for an animated film.
His Malibu beach complex on over an acre of land is priced at $100 million.
