CAR REVIEW: 2024 BMW X2 XDRIVE 28I

by | Aug 21, 2024 | Cars, Motor

One thing about luxury SUVs like the 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i – they are affordable. The challenge for the urbanite in 2024 is to balance the need for luxury wheels with the reality of not needing it as much as you might think. Think mind-numbing traffic congestion, biblically stupid big city planning, and a plethora bikes lanes with seemingly few cyclists. If you plan on driving every day in a city like Toronto you will go mad. That’s the plain reality. For the sake of your blood pressure you need to plan your week – walk when you can, maybe a quick Uber, maybe hop aboard a streetcar. Staying on your two feet is the best, safest and surest. Good for your health too. But extended walks may not line up with your work schedule.

At a price around $60,000, it’s not at a Porsche level, but if you’re dealing with the city elements, you might not need to be that ambitious with price point. Like all BMWs, the X2 is at a high-enough level of luxury standard, at a very reasonable price, ideal for a few days of work commute, then weekend jaunts to get out of the jungle.

The X2 was at the forefront of BMW model upgrades for the summer of 2024. That includes an expanded range of drive systems, additional items of standard and optional equipment, and new digital services for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2 ranges, including all premium compact models equipped with the Parking Assistant Professional.

BMW X2 xDrive28i features

Just the facts? The 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i comes equipped with a 241 hp and 295 lb-ft or torque, LED headlights with cornering function, collision warning with city braking, lane departure warning, among other standard features. The Premium Enhanced Package ($6,000) includes an interior camera, head-up display, Harman/Kardon sound system, video augmented reality navigation, BMW drive recorder, and more.

The media vehicle that was tested had the M Sport Package ($2,500), including 20-inch wheels, Adaptive M suspension, sports seats, M leather steering wheel, M Sport exterior and interior contents.

There are news stories out today quoting a provincial government report saying that gridlock is only going to get worse, to a point where drivers will be crawling at under 20 km/h on local highways. Toronto ranks among the worst in the world now. Don’t know how it can get worse. Most of us will always need a car or SUV. The question – what will be the best use of the money, when buying or leasing a vehicle, when most of the time it would just be sitting in the parking spot?
