What about a nice glass of red wine for Masters Sunday? Paulownia Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Helena, Napa Valley, is purple and intense. This is not your typical Napa wine – stylistically, it’s silky, smooth and has fine tannins. It’s an elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon which is not what you would expect seeing where it’s from. On the nose you get black cherries, some licorice, vanilla, cocoa, followed by some coffee and a subtle hint of leather. The structure of this wine is impeccable and it is age worthy. Vintage 2018, wine maker is Yasu Hayashi .
Yasu lives up to the Japanese cultural view of perfection, fine craftmanship and continuous improvement, quite apparent in the wines he makes. He is a perfectionist and this can be seen in Paulownia, his benchmark wine. Why Paulownia? Paulownia is an Asian tree with heart shaped leaves, beautiful and yet elegant. No different than the wines he makes. Available for sale in Alberta. Head here to buy.
