Koenigsegg has been known to make outlandish hypercars which worship at the altar of speed along with changing the supercar rulebook. The Koenigsegg Regera has been a big step forward from the Agera in every aspect including performance but also the way it is delivered.
With the Regera, this Swedish hypercar maker indeed took a big leap forward. Forget the styling and let us talk the powertrain along with the gearbox as that is unlike anything else.
Koenigsegg Regera HP: Performance and Powertrain
It is called as the Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) propulsion system where the Twin Turbo V8 is directly connected to the rear axle without transmission – hence, not needing it and reducing weight. All that trickery is done via electric assistance that supports with power and allows for brake generation.
This spooky technology has been developed by the Koenigsegg Advanced Engineering team and invented by Christian von Koenigsegg himself while it allows a greater power intensity and a direct driving experience.
Koenigsegg Regera Top Speed Design and Aesthetics
All discussion begins and ends with the Koenigsegg Regera horsepower. The powertrain itself is not just a simple bank of cylinders as it’s a 5.0-litre V8 with 1479 bhp but also getting help from electric motors. The future of hypercars lies in the charm of a conventional gasoline engine but also combined with the brutal force of electrical assistance.
There are three electric motors and there is an F1 cell pack which is the most power dense along with being the lightest. Yes, with the Regera actual F1 technology has filtered down to a road car – although it is quite far removed from the notion of one. All the powerful electric motors and the Koenigsegg Regera engine are governed via one gear which handles all the power in a flexible way. Without the conventional gearbox, the Regera is even faster and shuns “needless weight”.
The Koenigsegg Regera performance, as expected, is savage and brutal.
Koenigsegg Regera Interior and Features
The complex system has a clutch-slip mechanism that has hydraulic coupling to change torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration and that enables the engine to gain revs and power – much like a traditional gearbox. Shift paddles are also there.
Koenigsegg Regera Exterior and Features
The Koenigsegg Regera performance, as expected, is savage and brutal. Regera means “To Reign” in Swedish and it certainly does so in the performance stakes. Koenigsegg had done a 0-400-0 km/h run and in that, it broke records by doing it in 28.81 seconds for km/h and 29.60 for mph. Bonkers.
Previously, the most famous record was the 2019 0-400-0 km/h record at 31.49 seconds, which beat Koenigsegg’s 2017 0-400-0 km/h record that was set by the Agera RS at 33.29 seconds.
Koenigsegg Regera Driving Experience
That said, let us look at the design since that also was a change from the Agera. The Agera followed a template of earlier Koenigseggs but first shown in 2015, it was eventually launched three years later.
The shape is more radical, slippery and more spaceship like. It is more spacious than previous hypercars and is more of a luxurious GT on the inside.
Koenigsegg Regera Limited Production and Customization
Being handmade, the Koenigsegg Regera interior is drenched in exotic materials which you would expect like carbon fibre, but the interior comes decked with luxurious elements like 8-way electrically adjustable memory foam seats, a Koenigsegg 9” infotainment system, 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity etc.
It also has front parking sensors and comes with the stuff you expect normal cars to have but a near 1500 bhp monster with one is indeed unique. It is no pared-back hypercar as it comes with more than the basic creature comforts.
Koenigsegg Regera Price
Only 80 of these ludicrously fast hypercars were built. What’s the Koenigsegg Regera price? Each had a price-tag to match at $3.26 million but again considering the other worldly looks along with the performance, it is unlike any other hypercar in this increasingly crowded segment.
Koenigsegg Regera Top Speed
All data for the Koenigsegg Regera top speed was measured and verified by RACELOGIC.
0-400-0 km/h 28.81 sec
0-400 km/h 20.68 sec
400-0 km/h 8.13 sec
0-250-0 mph 29.60 sec
0-250 mph 21.35 sec
250-0 mph 8.25 sec

Somnath Chatterjee grew up around cars and most of his childhood was spent obsessing over supercars. Years later he decided to start writing about them and hasn’t looked back since. While he has had his fair share of cars, the world of automobiles never ceases to amaze him. Travelling all over the world to drive them along with sharing that experience is what ultimately keeps him going. He hopes to drive a Ferrari 288 GTO someday because, well, do you really need a reason?
