Golf in Scotland is on the bucket list for most men. No wonder. It’s the birthplace of the game, back to the 15 century, along its coastal regions. With the country’s natural, rolling landscapes, coastal cliffs, seaside vistas, some of the world’s most beautiful and challenging golf courses are there. And you’ll never visit anywhere that has as many accessible courses. There’s an abundance of selection, and it’s a very inclusive sport there.
With that in mind is today’s news that master-plan golf resort communities developer The Cabot Collection has released the routing plan for its new Tom Doak golf course, part of the Cabot Highlands development in Inverness. The golf course is set to open preview play in 2024. Cabot acquired the iconic Castle Stuart Golf Links in summer 2022. A new expanded 11,000 square-foot clubhouse will be part of the project.
Designed around a 400-year-old castle, the new course will work in the natural contours of the landscape, hillsides, with several picturesque holes along the water. If you’ve ever dreamed of golf in Scotland, this place might be worth a flyer when it opens.
“As architects, our greatest joy is to try and sort out the best way to have fun over a raw piece of ground, but the ultimate success would be to leave the golfer the same sort of puzzle,” said Doak.
