What better way to emerge from a worldwide pandemic then behind the wheel of a new Porsche 911, a 641-horsepower, six cylinder, 3.8 litre turbo engine sports car.

Porsche announced the launch of the new-generation 911 Turbo S in March. It’s out both as a Coupé and Cabriolet, 61 more hp than its predecessor. That translates to a sprint of zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds (a decrease of 0.2 seconds from the previous model). It has a top speed of 330 km/h (that’s unchanged).

Porsche has widened the body to enhance driving dynamics (45 mm wider above the front axle, 20 mm wider above the rear axle). They have further developed aerodynamics and added new mixed-size tires (20-inch tires at the front and 21 inches at the rear). That helps provide great agility and sportiness (the track is 42 mm wider at the front axle and 10 mm wide at the rear axle).

The all-wheel drive 911 looks much edgier, in terms of design. The Porsche Active Suspension Management sports chassis has been lowered by 10 mm. The exhaust system has adjustable flaps. The car makes a sound like none other. And the 911 has few peers (maybe the Audi R8, or the Mercedes AMG GTR), considering the way it handles. Consider cornering speeds, how the steering behaves, and how the car holds on the roadway. Faster and more precise – controlled dampers help with that.

Inside is a full leather interior and carbon trim, and 18-way adjustable sports seats for total comfort. There is a 10.9-inch centre screen, GT sports steering wheel and BOSE Surround Sound System, among other features.

The new Porsche 911 is available for order in Canada now. Pricing starts at $231,700 for the coupe and $246,300 for the cabriolet. Porsche dealerships in the Toronto area include Porsche Centre in Downtown Toronto and Pfaff Porsche.
