With the dawn of a new year comes a need for fresh sartorial inspiration. And there’s no better place than Pitti Uomo, Italy’s leading menswear fashion spectacle, to seek style notes.
The 103rd edition of the biannual trade event showcased 789 brands in total, bringing back some of the pre-pandemic glory that was thoroughly missed for the last two years. What’s more, the Fortezza da Basso exhibition area opened its doors to the world of pets and design this year. That was a huge first for the fashion trade show.
Pitti Uomo 2023: Deconstructed suits, timeless knits, vibrant winter toques, fanny packs, & more
The streetwear at Pitti Uomo 103 reflected the optimistic mood of the event. There was a medley of colours, prints, and shapes taking precedence over traditional aesthetics. Of course, there’s no denying the allure of all-black ensembles. But the unexpected pop of colour—like a rust orange hat teamed with a head-to-toe jet-black look or an orange statement sweater contrasted with a blue-brown-white palette—emanated a playful and a rather hopeful sentiment for the future of fashion.
Though street style at Pitti Uomo is known for its sharp tailoring and traditional suits, this year saw a hybrid approach to dressing, just like our current way of working. Think: a hoodie worn under a double-breasted blazer with jeans, or a hoodie layered with a houndstooth coat and styled with tailored trousers and sneakers. These deconstructed suit styles took the hard edge out of conventional tailoring and offered a sense of freedom to the wearer.

Coming to accessories, winter toques and cozy hats proved essential for almost everyone. Others chose a solid pair of sunglasses to elevate their outfits. The humble fanny pack made a major appearance, styled in a multitude of ways. Ready to take notes? Scroll through 25 of the best winter street style looks spotted at Pitti Uomo 2023.
