Some days are better than others, especially when it comes to our mental health. Our opinion of ourselves can differ from day to day. And what was a positive thought can quickly turn negative.

Unfortunately, many of those around us live with low self-confidence. It’s much easier to fixate and obsess over our flaws despite having many redeeming qualities that we should be proud of.

Increasing your self-worth is essential for your mental and physical well-being to feel more confident in your skin and keep negative feelings like depression and anxiety at bay. Here are several ways to do this and start feeling better about yourself.

Eat well

It’s surprising how much influence diet has on your self-confidence levels. As well as needing a range of nutrients and minerals to function healthily for scientific reasons, what we put into our bodies correlates with how we feel on the inside as much as on the outside. Failure to provide your body with the correct nutrients puts unnecessary strain on your body. That’s because without them, it cannot produce the hormones needed to keep you focused, energized and happy.

Ensure that you fuel your body well by eating a balance of all the main food groups. Put a heightened focus on fruits/ vegetables and a lesser focus on carbohydrates, sugars, and salt. If you struggle with this, you could consider implementing alternatives like protein bars, healthy snacks, or meal replacement shakes. As well as boasting an impressive range of meal replacement shakes, you will also find a variety of healthy alternatives fit for those looking to improve or maintain their eating habits.

Surround yourself with friends and family

Surrounding yourself with a network of friends or family members who bring you up is another way to feel better and increase self-confidence. If you regularly deal with low self-confidence, it can be challenging to surround yourself with a network of people that aren’t like-minded. It doesn’t matter how pure their intentions might be.

Ensure that your existing friendship group is free of judgement, listens to you, doesn’t pressure you into doing things you don’t want and reciprocates the same amount of respect and love you show them. Providing that your support network does all this and more is one of the most helpful things to have when struggling with low self-confidence and combat the feelings of isolation that come with it.

Practise self-forgiveness

Another way that you can start to feel better about yourself and increase your self-confidence levels is by practising self-forgiveness. Holding onto and reminiscing about past events or failures doesn’t allow you to move on from them. It only serves to hurt you further. Not only this but holding onto bad memories can increase your stress levels and prevent you from enjoying your life. That can lead to negative feelings such as bitterness, anger, resentment, etc.

To avoid this, you must remember that we are all human and make mistakes. It would be best to learn to forgive yourself for any past mistakes or wrongdoings to move on from them and grow as a person.

What not to do

If you are constantly feeling low and down in the dumps then it can be tempting to go out and be dangerous every night. This means hitting the clubs with your friends and not worrying if you get up for work the next morning. This isn’t a healthy way to manage your mental health and it can end up making it significantly worse.

However, if this is something you enjoy then there are remedies out there that can help you focus your mind and feel more like yourself after a heavy night out.
