At a time when U.S. auto tariffs on foreign cars start taking effect, with manufacturers like Jaguar Land Rover suspending shipments on new SUVs to the U.S., focus turns more to domestic vehicles, including in the luxury segment. Cadillac has an edge when talking American identity. That was my thought when driving the 2025 Cadillac XT6 Sport AWD a few weeks back.
Luxury SUV competitors like the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Volvo XC90 have the edge when it comes to refinement, especially around interior materials. The BMW X5, in particular, excels in that regard. The Cadillac is imposing, with a spacious interior. Then there is value proposition – the Cadillac XT6 came in at a total price of CAD$86,994 with options included like the Platinum Package (CAD$9,545, including Super Cruise, Night Vision, leather wrapped IP, console and door trim, leather seating surfaces on all rows), and a technology package, including automatic parking assist with braking, rear pedestrian alert, and head-up display. Standard vehicle price is CAD$67,499.
A comparably equipped BMW or Mercedes would climb past that. However European vehicles hold their value better in terms of resale.
All in all a comfortable drive though. The 2025 Cadillac XT6 Sport AWD is largely unchanged from past years. The Sport trim is powered by a 3.6L V6 engine delivering 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic and a twin-clutch AWD system. Super Cruise (hands-free driving tech) and Night Vision are new. The three-row cabin, Bose 14-speaker audio system, tri-zone climate control heated/ventilated front seats and heated back seats mark the interior experience.
Keep an eye on pricing in 2025 as the auto market adjusts to the Age of Tariff, if GM moves pricing as a further enticement to buy domestic. If you are looking more at value for your luxury SUV dollar, definitely take this one out for a test drive as you comparison shop.

I am a 50-something Torontonian who loves everything about my city. It’s been my home, my playground, for my entire life. I went to school here. I met my wife here. I own real estate here. I love writing about the transformation of my city on the world stage, which hasn’t been anything short of dramatic. That continues on, as I write this. I write on the real estate scene. I write on travel and fashion. I like following the world of luxury watches.
But I love writing about cars – check that, luxury cars, a level of superior, engineering sophistication, high performance and style, that transports you not just from one destination to another but also out of whatever you are going through on a particular day, whatever mood you are in, all to another head space. It’s complete and total exhilaration, head to toe.
