Michael Mann’s crime drama Heat, released in 1995, starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, remains one of the most influential films of its genre. Downtown Los Angeles was almost as much a star of movie as Pacino and DeNiro. Mann filmed on Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills (the diner where Pacino’s character Hanna and and DeNiro’s character McCauley talk), Venice Blvd. at Georgia St. (the scene with the armored truck robbery), S. Grand Avenue in L.A. (the famous bank shootout scene), Malibu (for the scene in McCauley’s house).

The famous stilt home where Danny Trejo’s character in the film lived, and where he met his demise at the hands of McCauley, is up for sale, priced at $1.599 million according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com. The home reflects the Mid-Century Modernist school of architecture, known for its clean lines, geometric shapes, and an emphasis on steel, glass and concrete. Around 1,500 of these unique homes on stilts were built in the 1950s and 1960s, and there’s just a handful in existence today. This is one of them. Plus you get to buy a piece of film history.

The home features an expansive 60-foot wooden deck, with sweeping panoramic views that stretch from Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Sign to Downtown LA and all the way to Catalina Island. There are multiple sets of sliding doors and windows in the 2,000 square-foot home to maximize those views. The celebrity home listing is held by Sally Forster Jones and Joshua F. Smith of The Sally Forster Jones Group at Compass. Photos Courtesy Compass.
