This is a huge honor, in which they beat out over 1,200 other whisky selections.
Multiple awards
And the awards have kept coming all year. The premium whisky won Double Gold at the 2020 World Spirits Competition in San Francisco. It also recently won the title of ‘Best Cask Strength Whisky.” Also, they won a gold medal at the Canadian Whisky Awards. And to top it all off, Alberta Distillers was named ‘Distillery of the Decade’ by the Canadian Whisky Awards.
Those are some pretty lofty and prestigious accolades. So what makes this whisky such a world-class expression? George Teichroeb, the general manager of Alberta Distillers, attributes their success to innovation. Also, to procuring only the best ingredients. “We source local Canadian rye and Rocky Mountain water,” he says. “The fact that our distillery is at the foot of the Rockies at 3,400 feet offers unique nuances to our liquids.”
Attention whisky aficionados
Alberta Distillers have been producing high quality whisky since 1946. And with their upper marque, they have really hit it out of the park. Alberta Premium Cask Strength is incredibly smooth. If you’re a whisky aficionado, you will love this spirit. As Teichroeb says, their whisky features, “notes of caramel, vanilla and a hint of chocolate, perfectly balanced with black currant and spice.”
This is achieved by aging the liquid in charred, new white oak barrels, completely undiluted. All of it contributes to its resulting smooth taste. For Alberta Distillers, the process is what separates them. Teichroeb points to the 100% rye grain, locally sourced ingredients, pot distillation, aging process. That and the fact that it’s uncut and drawn straight from the barrel. This is what makes this a premium liquid, he adds.

Canadian craftsmanship
Alberta Distillers have set a high bar for themselves. “We would like to be known as a world-class distiller with a deep history rooted in heritage and quality,” says Teichroeb. And their Premium Cask Strength whisky is very much a homegrown success story. Its combination of “100% Canadian rye grain and Rocky Mountain Water,” result in a whisky “that is a true reflection of Canadian pride and craftsmanship,” he adds.
With winter upon us, this is a perfect drink to have in your hand as you sit by the fire enjoying the holiday season with your loved ones. This whisky’s limited run sold out earlier this year. That’s no surprise considering all the acclaim and awards. Stores have a hard time keeping it on the shelves. So if you’re lucky enough to get a hold of a bottle of Alberta Premium Cask Strength, you’ll be golden for the holidays!
