Luxury sports cars like the 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster Style Edition are all about looks and fun, a slam dunk summertime driving experience, especially with the roof off during a warm evening. Obviously you aren’t at 911-level speeds, but it gave off enough pep, that’s for sure – base turbo 4-cylinder, 300 horsepower, 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, a top track speed (summer tires) of 275 km/h, crisp handling, nicely balanced chassis.
Then there is charisma factor, if that means anything to you. Not since the bright blue BMW two-door M6 sports demon eight years ago on a drive to New York City have we had this many stares when testing out a luxury sports cars. Necks creened, strangers made comments.

What a blast driving it, though. Just the facts, for the Porsche 718: $86,200 base; Ruby Star Neo ($2,950); leather interior in black ($2,310), GT Sport Steering Wheel ($370); BOSE Surround Sound System ($1,130); Navigation including Porsche Connect ($2,640); Premium Package ($2,470, including a luggage net in the passenger footwell, seat ventilation, lane change assist). Estimated total retail price is $104,500.
There’s small storage space and limited interior space (especially if you’re six feet-plus), so it’s not exactly the most practical beast out there, especially if you’re planning a long road trip. But Porsche knows their market. For a couple looking to inject fun into those daily errands, or for those who drive for the experience of it, much like the Chevrolet Corvette and the BMW Z4, there’s not much to match this.
