When driving through cities, you’ll need to pay extra attention to road safety, as there will be different potential hazards than driving in other areas. So, once you’re ready to start driving your luxury car, ensure that this is a focus.
Familiarize yourself with the car’s controls and features
It’s likely you’ll be unfamiliar with every knob and button in your luxury car when you first get it, so make sure you spend some time familiarizing yourself with the car’s specific controls and features. Modern luxury cars are equipped with safety technologies.
By learning about the vehicle’s system, you can better ensure you stay safe while driving through cities.

Make sure you have appropriate car insurance for your city
While having insurance won’t prevent you from potentially being involved in an accident, it will enable you to cover costs should you find yourself in a car accident.
While basic coverage is legally required in most states, you should look at other coverage options to ensure you’re as protected as possible. For instance, you may want to take out an uninsured or underinsured motorist policy.
You should also compare different insurers in your local area to find the best quote. For instance, if you’re looking for car insurance in Illinois cities, you could check out Chicago’s best options listed here.
Pay attention to pedestrians
Now, let’s start looking at the things you can do to stay safe while actually driving your luxury car in cities.
You need to remember that there are lots more potential hazards in busy cities, which means you need to keep your eyes peeled even more.
For one thing, pedestrian accidents tend to be high in cities, so make sure you watch out for pedestrians at crosswalks, pedestrians who cross roads at illegal spots, and people who are getting out of and into parked cars. If you do experience an accident, ensure to contact an expert car accident lawyer to help with your issue and ensure you do not get in big trouble, which can hinder your eligibility to drive. Furthermore, installing alert systems built into modern luxury cars is not totally foolproof. You need to keep your eyes peeled.
Keep a safe distance between cars
In cities and elsewhere, make sure you stay safe by keeping a safe driving distance between your car and the vehicle ahead.
You need to have time to react when sudden traffic changes occur.
If you drive too closely to another vehicle, you’re increasing your chances of being involved in a road accident.

Don’t engage with aggressive drivers
You could come across more aggressive drivers in cities. After all, cities often have high congestion, slow-moving traffic, and other issues that contribute to drivers becoming more aggressive.
If you notice an aggressive driver tailgating you or displaying any other type of aggressive behavior, make sure you don’t engage with the diver.
Let angry drivers pass as soon as it’s safe to let them do so. Never speed up or change lanes just because aggressive drivers are trying to force you.
If you do engage with aggressive drivers, you’ll heighten your chances of being involved in an altercation or accident.
Always avoid distracted driving
Drivers of luxury cars and any other kind of vehicle need to ensure that they never drive while distracted.
That includes never doing things like using your cell phone, eating, and applying makeup while behind the wheel of your car.
Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of car accidents, and distracted driving tends to occur a lot in cities. If you take your eyes off the road for just a moment, and if the road doesn’t have your full attention, you’re more likely to end up in an accident.

I am a 50-something Torontonian who loves everything about my city. It’s been my home, my playground, for my entire life. I went to school here. I met my wife here. I own real estate here. I love writing about the transformation of my city on the world stage, which hasn’t been anything short of dramatic. That continues on, as I write this. I write on the real estate scene. I write on travel and fashion. I like following the world of luxury watches.
But I love writing about cars – check that, luxury cars, a level of superior, engineering sophistication, high performance and style, that transports you not just from one destination to another but also out of whatever you are going through on a particular day, whatever mood you are in, all to another head space. It’s complete and total exhilaration, head to toe.
