Italy is synonymous with romance. And from its history and culture to its passionate people and sumptuous food, there’s plenty to fall in love with. But if you’re hunting one Italian honeymoon destination above all others, cast your eyes upon Lake Como.
Como is the cover-star of the glamorous Italian lakes, where the privileged have relaxed for centuries and Hollywood stars choose to settle. It’s a picture-perfect, upscale spot where you can fill days cruising on boats, exploring ornate villas and gardens, and indulging in (arguably) the world’s best cuisine with your love. Plus, you’ll reach it in around an hour from the fashion capital of Milan – a convenient stop on a luxury Italy vacation tour.
You might, of course, plan to while away the hours around your accommodation in a town such as Bellagio, Cernobbio, or Como. There are plenty of premium options here to choose from. But if you have the time and motivation, here’s what you should see and do whilst on your special trip.
5 things to do on a honeymoon at Lake Como
Local dining experiences
On that theme, you won’t be short of high-end dining options on your trip. Lenno boasts Michelin-star restaurants alongside traditional haunts, allowing you to mix it up over the course of your trip. Don’t leave without trying dried shad, a local delicacy similar to a sardine, then round off the evening with a refreshing limoncello.
Is Lake Como calling your name? With its classic combination of natural beauty and Italian tradition, it could be the perfect place to celebrate your commitment.
Private boat cruise
You might want to pick up a convertible car to get around the region in style. But hiring a private boat with a driver is the best way to explore the lake and its fringes, allowing you to stop off where you want for as long as you choose. The right tour guide will know where to find the best views and secluded spots.

Shopping in Bellagio
Of all the area’s towns and villages, Bellagio is perhaps the most famous and picturesque. Its narrow streets are adorned with a host of cafes, restaurants, and bars, but make sure to check out its upmarket boutiques for a souvenir too. The area is famous for its silk scarves and other sleek accessories.
Touring Tremazzo’s Villa Carlotta
Lake Como is overflowing with grand waterside retreats and Villa Carlotta is one of the best. Its beautiful pink and white structure houses valuable paintings, sculptures, and period furniture, while outside you can stroll around immaculately maintained 14-acre botanical gardens. You might just pick up some inspiration for your next home makeover.

A relaxing day at the beach
You don’t want to spend your whole trip rushing around – especially on your honeymoon. Allocate a day or two of relaxation at the Lido di Moltrasio, Lido di Bellagio, or Lido de Lenno, and soak up the sun with a glass of wine or cocktail and some classic Italian nibbles.

I am a 50-something Torontonian who loves everything about my city. It’s been my home, my playground, for my entire life. I went to school here. I met my wife here. I own real estate here. I love writing about the transformation of my city on the world stage, which hasn’t been anything short of dramatic. That continues on, as I write this. I write on the real estate scene. I write on travel and fashion. I like following the world of luxury watches.
But I love writing about cars – check that, luxury cars, a level of superior, engineering sophistication, high performance and style, that transports you not just from one destination to another but also out of whatever you are going through on a particular day, whatever mood you are in, all to another head space. It’s complete and total exhilaration, head to toe.
