The Cadillac Lyriq is an all-electric crossover, the first luxury electric vehicle launched by General Motors. Our love-hate relationship with electric vehicles is well detailed, but let’s be the bigger man here. I drove the Lyriq for a week, all over Toronto, back and forth to Niagara region. Besides another migraine endeavouring to fast charge the vehicle, not only in downtown Toronto but also downtown St. Catharines (the devil is really in the details when talking EV fast charger public-access infrastructure), it was hard to find anything wrong with the car.
Refined luxury is what went through my mind – led by the panoramic fixed glass roof, even the dual-zone ambient interior lighting. My satisfaction was reflected in sales data from General Motors – the company expanded its EV share in 2024, setting U.S. sales records for their other brands (especially the Escalade SUV). In Q4 2024, the Cadillac Lyriq saw its best quarterly sales numbers ever in the U.S. – a 111% increase for the year. That’s despite a climate that’s turning cold on electric vehicles.
Some of the headline-grabbing features – hands-free driver assistance tech (great for tight, underground condo parking spaces), the single, continuous, curved, LED display, 20 standard safety and driver assistance features, 513 km of range, 515 HP on the AWD, 450 lb.-ft. torque.
