One of the most iconic movie cars was a 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in Bullitt, starring Steve McQueen. The car’s starring role in one of the most famous car chases in cinema history solidified its place in pop culture. The car was painted in a Dark Highland Green and was equipped with a 390 cubic inch V8 engine that produced 325 horsepower. Here is the car chase scene here:
Barrett-Jackson features a custom 1968 Ford Mustang fastback tribute to the Bullitt car available to bidders at the upcoming classic car auction Jan. 20-28 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The fastback has been professionally restored and infused with modern technology by the experts at M&R Restorations.
The goal was to keep it true to the original Bullitt car look but with a much higher-performing driving experience. The paint and bodywork are done to show-car standards with the exterior expertly finished in a customized version of the original Highland Green paint from 1968. Keeping an FE motor as in the version Steve McQueen drove in the movie was important, so the heart of this custom Bullitt is a blueprinted and balanced fuel-injected FE 428ci aluminum-headed V8 engine.
