LUX POST: PANERAI REMIXES A FAMILIAR LOOK WITH A NEW COMPLICATION; WORLD’S LARGEST IN-WATER BOAT SHOW

New this week is the Panerai Submersible Chrono Flyback Mike Horn Edition, a striking, 47 mm limited edition diving watch (just 500) for the truly adventurous at heart. And don’t we all deserve a little bit of that right about now.

Mike Horn is a South African-born explorer of some acclaim, famous for completing a one-year, six-month solo journey round the equator without any motorized transport, in 2001. Then in 2004, the adventurer completed a solo circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle. That took him two years and three months. And two years after that he travelled without a dog or motorized transport to the North Pole – during winter, in total darkness. Fellow explorer Børge Ousland accompanied him on that one.

An indispensable tool for the adventure-seeker

So Panerai is attaching their brand to a guy who knows how to get around, in some of the toughest conditions. The new timepiece reflects that toughness. A bulky 47 mm, brushed titanium case, a hard black matte ceramic ring, and screw-down chronograph pushers deliver superior water resistance. It’s the dark blue dial, white indices and stark yellow central chronograph hands that’s the real statement-maker for us.

This Panerai is an indispensable tool for the Mike Horn’s out there, on land or sea. It’s powered by the automatic P.9100 movement, and features the flyback function. That’s an advanced complication that allows the chronograph to reset and restart with one press of the pusher at eight o’clock.

If you are swapping the two straps that come with the watch (blue rubber accordion and one composed of rubber and fabric), Panerai makes that as simple as possible. They include an interchangeability tool. And with a screwdriver, it’s pretty simple to remove the trapezoidal pin buckle. The watch has a three-day power reserve in case you really need to get away. Price is $20,500.

Each villa now has a second level and indoor/outdoor living space, and private plunge pool. Thoughtful, unique design elements are showcased throughout the spacious accommodations. There’s an incorporation of local artwork, slate floors, glass pocket doors opening the living area to the outdoors and natural hardwood trim.

“These distinctly designed villas truly serve as a home-away-from-home for our guests and their extended families and friends,” says general manager Charlie Parker. Looks like a nice place to plunk down a laptop for a month or so.
