FROM DRAKE TO BRAD PITT: 6 CELEBRITIES IN LOVE WITH THE PATEK PHILIPPE NAUTILUS

by | Nov 19, 2021 | Style, Watches

The Nautilus Collection by Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe features some of the rarest and most sought-after luxury watches in the market today. With a bent of traditional sporty elegance, its most recognizable element has to be its bezel’s rounded octagonal shape. Available in stainless steel, rose gold, white gold, or two-tone combinations, the Nautilus is no less than a status symbol.

Interestingly, when the Patek Philippe Nautilus was introduced back in 1976, it was in direct competition with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak sports watch. Now 40 years later, Patek Philippe is still producing the now iconic style. In fact, the Geneva-based watchmaker released five new iterations of Nautilus in 2021, making a total of 31 luxury watches housed in the Nautilus Collection currently available on their website (the new Nautilus Haute Joaillerie reference 7118/1450 comes paved with 2,553 brilliant-cut diamonds!). Of course, this does not include the multiple limited-edition Nautilus watches that are exchanging hands (or rather, wrists) after years-long waitlists in the second-hand luxury watch market.

Accented with simplicity, the Patek Philippe Nautilus exudes timeless charm. Take it from leading celebrities Drake, Brad Pitt, Ed Sheeran, Kevin Hart, Jonah Hill, and Trevor Noah who have loyally favoured the timepiece for years. Especially Drake, who seems like he simply can’t get enough of Nautilus’ refined style – he owns five different iterations, all in different colours, materials, and price tags.

Ahead, we give you a tour of six celebrity wrists and their Patek Philippe Nautilus luxury watches.

Drake’s watches

Canadian rapper Drake is a true insider to the world of luxury watches, especially Patek Philippe and Rolex. His collection features a variety of Patek Philippe Nautilus timepieces. One of those – reference 5726/1A – is customized just for Drake by Off-White and Louis Vuitton creative director Virgil Abloh. It has an emerald-and-black bracelet strap and embellished dial.

His other iterations of Patek Philippe Nautilus include the limited-edition 40th-anniversary Chronograph reference 5976/1G in 18K white gold featuring diamond markers and anniversary years (1976-40-2016) embossing. Then there’s the Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5719/10G. It comes in white gold, fully paved with 1,343 diamonds totalling 18.73 carats (retails from $350,000). And the extremely rare reference 5719/10R-010 comes in 18k rose gold featuring a pave diamond dial and set with 1598 brilliant-cut and baguette-cut diamonds (worth almost $570,000).

There’s also another rare Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5740/1G-001 Perpetual Calendar in 18k white gold with a blue dial (market price of $235,000) that features the first grand complication in the Nautilus range. Lastly, Drake has the Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5724G-001 in 18K rose gold featuring a black gradient dial and set with a 44-baguette diamond-encrusted case.

Ed Sheeran’s watches

From a custom-made Patek Philippe Nautilus timepiece to an iconic Richard Mille showpiece, English pop star Ed Sheeran has slowly built a solid repertoire of luxury watches like a true watch connoisseur. He was reportedly gifted a Patek Philippe for playing at a birthday party. That’s how his interest began in the Swiss watchmaking brand. His three Nautilus collectibles are all uniquely stylish.

One is a complicated edition of the Nautilus Annual Calendar reference 5726A sports watch with a steel case and alligator leather strap. Another is a highly-covetable Nautilus reference 5711/1300A featuring a green dial with a diamond-set bezel complete with a row of 32 baguette-cut diamonds totalling roughly 3.6 carats. But nothing beats his Bamford-customized Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5726A, complete with his initials E.S. etched on the ribbed black dial.

Kevin Hart’s luxury watches

American comedian, actor, and producer Kevin Hart has two special Patek Philippe Nautilus watches in his expensive collection. One is the exclusive Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5711/111P-001 in platinum featuring 32 baguette blue sapphires and 12 sapphires on the hour markers.

This limited-edition iteration was only made in ten select pieces. And today, they’re each valued at $400,000 in the luxury watch market. Kevin’s second crown jewel Patek Philippe Nautilus is the 40th-anniversary Chronograph reference 5976/1G (the same as Drake’s). The luxury watch comes in 18K white gold featuring diamond markers. It’s embossed with its anniversary years (1976-40-2016) on the dial.

Jonah Hill’s luxury watches

Actor Jonah Hill, best known for his roles in Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball, and Superbad, owns two different yet equally-in-demand Nautilus watches. The first is Nautilus reference 5711 in stainless steel. That’s one of the hottest watches on the market right now. And the second is a chic vintage Nautilus reference 3800/1J in yellow gold with a ribbed blue dial. Hill teams them both with polished suits as well as low-key normcore outfits, proving the luxury sports watch’s versatility.

He owns not one, but two models of the Patek Philippe Nautilus timepiece. He has the elusive white-gold Perpetual Calendar Nautilus reference 5740 with a blue dial (worth $200,000), and Nautilus reference 5711R in rose gold with a brown graded dial.
